The Utility Box Art Program continues! Building on the success of our inaugural 2024-2025 program, we're excited to announce a second round of utility box transformations.
The 2024-2025 program was successfully completed with seven talented artists transforming downtown utility boxes along Grant Avenue into vibrant works of public art.
We invite you to take a self-guided tour to experience the inaugural installations along Grant Avenue at these intersections: De Long & Reichert, Grant & Reichert (2 locations), Grant & Redwood, Grant & First, Grant & Sixth, and Grant & Seventh.
Applications for the 2025-2026 program are now open! Seven new utility boxes will be transformed along Redwood Boulevard and South Novato Boulevard. The application deadline is February 22, 2026. Visit the application section below for complete details and submission requirements.
About the Project
The Utility Box Art Program launched in 2024-2025 as a community service project led by Team Big Rock Ridge from the Novato Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Novato Class of 2025, with support from the Downtown Novato Business Association.
Building on the success of the inaugural program, the Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is now leading the 2025-2026 program to continue transforming utility boxes throughout Novato into vibrant works of public art that celebrate our city's story. Through this collaborative effort with community partners, we're enhancing the visual appeal of our city while creating meaningful public art that reflects Novato's unique character.
The program evaluates artwork condition every three years and will continue to refresh installations, ensuring these public spaces remain dynamic and engaging for years to come.
