09/25/25 Update: The final phase of construction has begun. We’ve completed several major improvements, including installation of a brand-new playground with perimeter fencing and restroom enhancements. Next, we will be performing park pathway paving, improvements to the existing parking lot and water fountain replacement.

These are the final elements of the park enhancement project. While construction is in progress, you may experience occasional closures and other similar impacts. Please be mindful of construction areas and adhere to posted signage. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to create a safer, more inclusive, and more enjoyable park for everyone. Hoog Park Playground & Accessibility Enhancements CIP Project No. 17-004

Description

Josef Hoog Park is one of Novato’s beloved community parks spanning 9.8 acres and featuring rolling hills, open green space, a half-court outdoor basketball court, playground and reservable barbecue area.  

This playground improvement project was identified as a priority in the City’s Parks Master Plan which was adopted by City Council in April 2024 after a year long community engagement process. The project was included and approved in the Fiscal Year 2024/2025 Budget for Capital Improvement Projects by City Council. 

In July 2024, the City applied for the GameTime Community Champions™ Playground Grant to support this project. Staff were notified in August 2024 that the project had been awarded the matching grant for up to $200,000 towards the purchase of playground equipment.

Benefit

This project will provide more opportunities for Novato residents to actively participate and play at Hoog Park through upgraded playground amenities.

Schedule

Construction work began on January 20, 2025, and is estimated to be completed in Spring 2025.

Cost

$720,000 (fiscal year 24/25 budget) including a matching grant for up to $200,000 towards purchase of playground equipment.
