**NEW LAWS IN MARIN**
AB 1778: Effective July 1, 2025, students under 16 years of age will no longer be allowed to ride Class 2 throttle e-bikes in Marin. There is already a similar law for Class 3 (must be 16 or older). Class 1 pedal assist e-bikes are still legal for any aged student.
Did you know that kids ages 10–15 are 5 times more likely than other age groups to need an ambulance after an e-bike crash?
That’s why we’re working to make e-bike riding safer for everyone in Marin. E-bikes are rapidly increasing in popularity, especially with teens as they provide increased independence. E-bikes allow children to travel further and faster, allowing steep hills to be easily climbed. Heavy school books and sports equipment are no longer an issue to transport! One less vehicle on the road benefits all.
New Marin E-Bike Laws:
- Class 2 throttle e-bikes are for riders 16 years old and up
- Helmets are required for all ages (no exceptions!
Ride smart. Ride safe. Let’s keep rolling, Marin!
