At their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 28, the Novato City Council voted to begin the process of appointing a City Councilmember to fill the vacant District 5 seat, which includes Hamilton and parts of Southern Novato. The person appointed to fill the vacancy would serve on an interim basis until the City’s next general municipal election, which will be held on November 3, 2026.
To be considered for the Novato City Council District 5 seat, those interested must:
- Submit their application by Monday, November 24 at 12:30pm. Applications are available online at novato.org/elections or by contacting City Clerk Laura McDowall at lmcdowall@novato.org or 415.899.8986;
- Be 18 years or older; and
- Be a registered voter living within the boundaries of District 5. A district map is available at novato.org/elections.
Council will hold a special meeting to conduct interviews of eligible applicants. Interviews will be open to the public, and all application materials will be published with the City Council special meeting agenda at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting at novato.org/agendas. Pursuant to Government Code Section 36512, the City Council must appoint a councilmember to the District 5 seat by December 11, 2025.

En su reunión ordinaria del martes 28 de octubre, el Consejo Municipal de Novato votó a favor de iniciar el proceso de nombramiento de un concejal para cubrir la vacante del Distrito 5, que incluye Hamilton y parte del sur de Novato. La persona designada ocupará el cargo de forma interina hasta las próximas elecciones municipales generales, que se celebrarán el 3 de noviembre de 2026.
Para ser considerado para el puesto del Distrito 5 del Consejo Municipal de Novato, los interesados deben:
- Enviar su solicitud antes del lunes 24 de noviembre a las 12:30 p. m. Las solicitudes están disponibles en línea en novato.org/elections o comunicándose con la Secretaria Municipal, Laura McDowall, a través de lmcdowall@novato.org o al 415.899.8986.
- Ser mayor de 18 años; y

El Consejo Municipal celebrará una reunión especial para entrevistar a los candidatos elegibles. Las entrevistas estarán abiertas al público y todos los materiales de solicitud se publicarán junto con el orden del día de la reunión especial del Consejo Municipal al menos 24 horas antes de la reunión en novato.org/agendas. De conformidad con la sección 36512 del Código de Gobierno, el Consejo Municipal debe nombrar a un concejal para el puesto del Distrito 5 antes del 11 de diciembre de 2025.
