The City of Novato is pleased to announce the appointment of Bob Curry as its new Chief Building Official. Curry brings more than 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, most recently serving as Chief Building Official for the City of Rohnert Park.  

“I am thrilled to welcome Bob to our team,” said Clare Hartman, Community Development Director. “With decades of hands-on experience in building safety and compliance, Bob brings the expertise and leadership we need to continue our efforts in providing exceptional customer service to our community.” 

In his most recent role, Curry managed Building Division operations, including permitting and inspections, while leading initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and customer service. His achievements include implementing an online permitting system, streamlining the inspection process and developing an Accessory Dwelling Unit program. Prior to his public service career, Curry had an extensive career as a General Contractor, managing both residential and commercial projects. 

Curry holds multiple International Code Council (ICC) certifications, including Master Code Professional, Building Official, Residential Inspector, and Commercial Building Inspector. 

“Novato has been my home for more than three decades and it’s where I raised my family,” Curry said. “I’m proud to have the opportunity to serve this community. Having worked as a contractor and served the past ten years as a building code official, I know the importance of issuing permits efficiently while maintaining the requirements of the Code.” 

With Curry assuming his new role on October 20, the City would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Mark Setterland for his dedicated service as Interim Chief Building Official over the past two years. Mark’s leadership, professionalism and commitment to the Novato community have been invaluable during this transitional period.
