New 15 Minute “Carry Out” Parking Spaces in Downtown Novato

Post Date:05/19/2020 10:17 AM

The City of Novato and Downtown Novato Business Association (DNBA) are pleased to announce the designation of over 30 temporary 15 minute “Carry Out” parking spaces along Grant Avenue and select side streets in Downtown Novato. On May 18, a new County of Marin Order went into effect to help retailers as they reopen storefronts.

“We hope these new spaces will encourage our community to continue to patronize our local businesses Downtown and make curbside pickup easier for all,” said Assistant City Manager Jessica Deakyne “The City continues to work with local partners to find new ways to help our business community adapt and succeed under new protocols that are in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The new temporary green and white “Carry Out” parking signs, installed by City staff, have been placed in front of parking spots throughout Downtown Novato and are meant to provide easy access to Downtown businesses and restaurants offering takeout and curbside services. Each spot is numbered so customers can easily pull up and let merchants know where to bring the prearranged curbside sale. Additionally, customers can park in these spaces while running in for pick up. Those arriving for carry out or pickup are encouraged to park in a “Carry Out” space closest to the business they are ordering from. The remainder of the Downtown Novato public parking spaces remain available for customers as well.

“The City has been a great partner to the DNBA throughout the COVID-19 shutdown helping us find ways to mitigate the impact on our Downtown businesses,” said DNBA Executive Director Stephanie Koehler. “These parking space designations will help retailers and restaurants make the most of the ability to offer carry out services.”
