Novato Park Restrictions and Closures

Post Date:04/10/2020 2:01 PM

We understand the desire to get outside as the weather continues to get nicer, especially to gather with family and friends this upcoming holiday weekend. We urge you to please stay close to home, do not gather at local parks or open space, enjoy in-person activities with only those in your own household, and continue to practice social distancing while out in your neighborhood.

Novato’s parks and open space remain closed to motorized access, except for disabled individuals with vehicles possessing current and valid disabled person parking placards or license plates. These measures are vital in continuing to flatten the curve and protecting the health and safety of our friends, families and neighbors.

Please avoid traveling by car, and instead walk, bike or use other non-motorized means to get to your local outdoor recreation area. Keep in mind that per Marin County’s Stay at Home Order, the following areas closed to the public:

  • Dog parks
  • Skate parks
  • Park parking lots
  • Playgrounds
  • Picnic areas
  • Ball fields and courts
  • Park restrooms

Additionally, sports requiring people to share a ball or other equipment must be limited to people in the same household.

We encourage you to go outside in your own neighborhood, in moderation. Some ways to spend time outdoors while staying close to home include walking the dog, a neighborhood bike ride, or enjoying a picnic-style family lunch in your yard.

If we all congregate at the same hiking trail or park, it will be difficult to practice social distancing so please seek the path less traveled—close to your home. Please do your part to help your community by staying home. We’re all in this together.
