Novato City Council Ratifies Proclamation of Local Emergency in Response to COVID-19
On Monday, March 16, 2020, the Novato City Council held a special meeting to adopt a resolution proclaiming a Local Emergency for the City of Novato in response to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). At this meeting, Council and staff practiced social distancing by remaining at least 6 feet apart. This meeting was open to the public with additional measures in place to reduce person-to-person contact, however no members of the public attended. The Council voted to approve the resolution by a vote of 5-0.
The proclamation of local emergency, solely for the purpose of prevention and preparedness, will mobilize resources, accelerate emergency planning, streamline staffing, and allow for future reimbursement by the State and Federal governments. Additionally, the proclamation reinforces City staff’s role as Disaster Service Workers. The City is working hard to ensure our local readiness efforts are as robust as possible to protect the health of our community.
The regular Novato City Council meeting previously scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2020 has been cancelled to comply with the County of Marin’s Public Health Shelter Order.
