Novato Declares Local Emergency in Response to Coronavirus

Post Date:03/13/2020 4:00 PM

On Wednesday, March 11, 2020, Novato City Manager Adam McGill declared a Local Emergency to fully prepare for COVID-19, commonly known as novel coronavirus, as well as to align with actions taken by Marin County and the State of California.

The Novato City Council is expected to take measures to ratify this declaration on March 16, 2020, 6pm at Novato City Hall, 901 Sherman Avenue. This declaration is solely for the purpose of good forward thinking and allows the City to make decisions appropriate to the situation as it evolves, as well as access resources.

“The health and safety of our community and staff is our top priority,” said City Manager Adam McGill. “This declaration is about preparation as we continue to work with our local partners to ensure we have the resources we need to address this issue, ensure stability in City operations and keep the community informed.”

At this time, Novato City Hall remains open to the public and our City Council meetings remain scheduled. As a reminder, the City offers many ways for you to watch and participate in City matters without attending a meeting in-person. Our City Council and Planning Commission meetings are streamed live at novato.org/watchmeetings and on Novato Community Television channel 27 (Comcast) and channel 70 (Horizon). Additionally, public comments for Council agenda items can be submitted online via our new eComment feature when an agenda is posted online at novato.org/councilagendas. Written comments can also be submitted by email to novatocouncil@novato.org or the City Clerk at tgillen@novato.org. If you would like to support, oppose, or otherwise comment on an upcoming agenda item, please consider sending in your comments prior to the meeting rather than attending a meeting in person.

Please understand some non-essential meetings, gatherings and services will be altered or postponed in the interest of public health as we evaluate the risk to our community and staff. All meeting and event cancellations will be posted online at novato.org/calendar and notified out to the public via email, text and City social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and Nextdoor).

We remain dedicated to providing the best possible service to our community and continue to work with our local partners during this time.

Additional information including what to do if you are feeling sick and updates from Marin Health and Human Services are available at novato.org/coronavirus.
