Novato City Council Nomination Period Open for 2019 Local Elections
The nomination period is currently open for those who would like to run for City Council seats in Districts 1, 3 & 5 for the November 2019 local election. Candidates must reside in the district in which they are running, be a registered voter and at least 18 years of age. The nomination filing period closes on August 8, 2019 at 5pm (Per the City Clerk's office regular posted business hours). If the current councilmember who resides in districts 1, 3 or 5 (respectively), does not file for re-election then the due date for that particular district will be extended until August 14, 2019.
To run for City Council, please schedule an appointment with the City Clerk Terrie Gillen by calling 415.899.8986 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to receive your nomination packet.
In May 2019, the Novato City Council adopted a new district-based election system in which all five Councilmembers will be elected by district. Councilmembers are required to live in the district that they represent and will be elected only by the registered voters of that district. All five councilmembers will continue to participate and vote on citywide matters regardless of what district they represent.
