Council Selects Proposed District Elections Map
On May 14, 2019, the City Council held its fourth district elections public hearing to review, consider and receive public feedback on 22 proposed district maps which included 16 community submissions. As part of this process, the City-contracted demographer assisted the Council in determining which proposed maps met the required districting map criteria. After consideration, discussion, and narrowing down each Council member’s top choices, the Council voted unanimously to select map #114, submitted by Novato resident Tracey Ruiz.
Additionally, the Council moved to introduce the ordinance, which would establish the by-district election, define district boundaries as shown on Map 114, and schedule elections within districts (election sequencing).
Please join the Council at Public Hearing #5 on May 21, 2019 at 6pm at Novato City Hall (901 Sherman Avenue) to provide your feedback on proposed map 114. At this meeting, the Council will receive a brief report on the process for final adoption of by-district elections and possibly adopt the ordinance.
The draft maps, along with demographics for each map, are all available for review at novato.org/elections.
